Kemtec Science: Paper Trail

• Target Grades: 5-8
• Number of Students: 24 students working in six groups of four

Introduce middle school students to the excitement of forensics with this age appropriate crime scene related document analysis kit. Students perform physical and chemical analyses of a variety of papers and inks using a number of techniques including chromatography, microscopy, and an alignment tool to analyze documents and handwriting. Students produce and retrieve hidden messages, and prepare forged and authenticated documents. Requires four to five class periods. Meets national standards for grades 5-8.
