Kemtec Science: Qualitative Analysis of Carbohydrates

With this kit students learn about the unique properties of carbohydrates and how to run analytical tests for characterizing various carbohydrates, starches, and sugars. Experiments include the Anthrone test for carbohydrates, iodine test for starch, Benedict test for reducing carbohydrates, Barfoed test for reducing monosaccharides, Seliwanoff test for ketoses, and Bial test for pentoses. Required, but not included: Hot plate or burner, concentrated and 3M hydrochloric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, glassware. Designed for 24 students working in six groups of four.
