About Rigamajig
Rigamajig was created in 2011 by designer Cas Holman in collaboration with early childhood educators as an instruction-free play kit for New York City’s High Line Park. Built from high-quality wooden components, ropes, and simple hardware, it was designed to encourage teamwork and creative problem-solving through uninhibited physical building. Today, Rigamajig is an internationally recognized play system featured in classrooms, maker spaces, and children's museums worldwide, empowering young minds through open-ended STEM exploration and hands-on discovery.
Rigamajig for Education
Rigamajig transforms classrooms, afterschool programs, and summer camps into active STEM design labs. By eliminating step-by-step instructions, it challenges children to use spatial reasoning, trial and error, and real-world physics to bring their ideas to life. Because the large-scale components require multiple hands to assemble, kids naturally develop essential social-emotional skills—learning to communicate, negotiate roles, and solve complex problems as a team while building lifelong confidence through open-ended play.
